How important is developmental play, where children actually feel like they're in the space?

Here at the house, we have child-led learning, where children feel like they're in their own space. At the bakery, our children feel like they're at a real bakery. Just like mum and dad having a coffee and ordering their croissant. They absolutely love this space.

Our organic market is probably the highlight of this centre. Children take their grocery basket, go to the cash register and enjoy make-believe, child-led play.

[Closing sentence being checked.]

Why role-play matters

In the house, children feel like they're in their own space. At the bakery, they order a croissant just like mum and dad. At the market, they take a basket and pay at the register. This is the child-led, make-believe play our spaces are built for.

The bakery and market are pretend-play spaces. Our real meals are cooked fresh in the centre kitchen. About our food

Hi, my name is Linda and I'm the founder here at Storybrooke Education School of Early Learning in Brookvale.

Storybrooke was a dream, a vision that I had from my very, very early days of teaching kindergarten. After many years on the playground, many years in education coordinator roles and many years with non-English-speaking parents, I realised that parents need that support too, not only their children.

My vision here is that we're not just looking after the children, we're looking after their parents and what they want. If your child is one or under one year old, they don't know what's happening. They put their full trust in their parent to make the right decision for them. So a parent needs to feel the comfort, the understanding, the knowledge and the vision.

A lot of parents who come in tell me they don't want to hear just about our curriculum, although that's my passion. They want to know that their children are going to be hugged, loved and looked after in those very delicate first years of their life.

So just book a tour, and I would love to show you and your family around Storybrooke.

Hi, I'm Katie and I'm an educator at Storybrooke. I've worked in childcare for seven years.

I love what I do because I'm impacting positively on little lives, and I know I'm making a big difference. If I can spark a thought about what they would love to grow up and be, I would love to think that I sparked that in their little heads.

I also love children with additional needs. That is a huge passion of mine, because I always think everyone should get a chance. Some people say they can't do something, when I always believe there is always a way.

This is where little stories begin, and this is Storybrooke. I can't wait to meet you on a tour.

I chose Storybrooke because I went with my gut feeling, and also, children never lie. When you pick them up, you know whether they've had a good day or a bad day.

We chose Storybrooke from the first time we came here. It was a very beautiful environment where we felt welcome, and my daughter kept saying she wanted to go back to the 'supermarket' childcare. She loves it here. She loves the educators and she loves the director, and I love coming for drop-off and pick-up because she's always so happy.

She's becoming confident. She's now learning to read, which is something I've been trying at home. [Educator names being checked] have been working so hard with her on reading and writing, so she's ready for school next year.

He always mentions the other children's names at home, and the toys and the storytelling here. He's very excited, and he keeps talking much more. I noticed this after he'd been here for a few weeks.

I saw a lot of changes in my son in terms of his social engagement with other kids. At his age, two and a half, it was about making sure he can get along with other kids, be playful with them, and be happy learning new experiences.

I would recommend Storybrooke because every time I pick up my son, he never wants to leave, and that's a good sign for me.
